Gateway Shidokan’s Dojo - 2019 Highlights

November 5th - 13th

A group from Gateway Shidokan Karate attended Miyazato Karatedo 60th Anniversary Celebration in Cordoba, Argentina. Those of us who traveled from America were warmly received as honored guests by Mascatoshi Miyazato, Hanshi, 10th Dan. There is a long history of friendship between the dojos. The late Shoei Miyazato, Hanshi, 10th Dan and Seikichi Iha, Hanshi, 10th Dan were childhood friends growing up in Okinawa. To this day the dojos maintain a strong relationship and are considered karate family. Those from our dojo who attended, in addition to Stephanie Faulkingham, Sensei, were Wally Nitsche, Crystal Nitsche, and Meghan Johnston.

A group from Gateway Shidokan Karate participated in an association wide trip to Naha in Okinawa, Japan to celebrate Seikichi Iha, Hanshi, 10th Dan’s Tookachi (88th birthday) Celebration. This celebration is a strong cultural component for the people of Okinawa. It was a great honor and privilege to be in attendance of such a celebration, making this a trip of a lifetime. There were over 200 association attendees and a strong attendance from the Miyazato Dojo. As an international group traveling to celebrate Sensei Iha, our number totaled approximately 500. Those from our dojo who attended, in addition to Stephanie Faulkingham, Sensei, were Tony Bui, Wally Nitsche, Crystal Nitsche, Nathan Nitsche, and Meghan Johnston
